Talk About Extra! - Singapore Day 1

WHEW! What a day!

Singapore sneak peek!

Today was quite the adventure… something odd for 2 type A girls. We had everything planned out to a T and quite honestly, it went pretty smoothly! Yay!

Our alarms went off at 5:45 am and I was awaken from my slumber to the sound of Justin Bieber’s “Baby” (always a good morning motivator). We slapped some toothpaste on the toothbrush, threw on a good ol’ plane outfit, and headed out the door and off to the airport. It was pretty smooth sailing and we got to the airport with plenty of time… dad, you taught me well! We got checked in, which I was nervous about because I spelled my last name wrong on my booking - definitely a win for me! But everything turned out ok :)

The plane ride was just grand! I slept so much my eyelashes turned horizontal and stuck together. I also slept so deeply I completely missed the part of the plane ride where they give us the immigration cards; just a minor detail of getting into the country. But in no time we landed, deplaned, got through customs, and were then enlightened by the beauty that is the Changi International Airport. I don’t think words can do this place justice. The toilet seats are heated and clean your bum when you’re done, well, you know! This place is spotless; I’m talking it looks like Jesus himself came and buffered these walls with some angel dust or something. There is a “Rain Vortex” dead in the middle of the airport and then waterfalls along the side. I’m sorry… huh? I think about LAX and the traffic, the smoke, the people trying to kill you - all the necessities and then I think about this airport. I mean, I could live in this airport. It’s got all the food you could ever want, a Starbucks Reserve (which according to Allison is basically nirvana), a store with beds so you can sleep, and fancier toilets than I have in my house, so I’m set.

Ok, ok, I swear we left the airport… after drowning ourselves in açaí bowls (I’ve been deprived!) We mastered public transport and finally arrived at our Airbnb. We got a bit nervous because things were going exactly as we planned so, being paranoid, we began to plan for something to go completely wrong. It was about 4:00 when we got all settled and left for our ADVENTURE! We began our adventure by walking in some very nice humid weather. We wanted to go to the Marina Bay Sands and the Gardens by the Bay so we head in that direction. It took us a bit longer to get there because we could not for the life of us figure out how to cross the street and kept getting side tracked by just about everything. It looks so cool here! I feel like I’m in that movie Tron and everything is so fancy and updated.

We finally made it to Merlion Park right along the water and took approximately 17,000 photos (we hoped 1 looked good). We continued our walk, stopping only for boba because Allison is addicted, and finally arrived at the Gardens by the Bay. You know that scene in Crazy, Rich Asians during the big, fancy wedding reception with all those wonky looking trees, THAT’S Gardens by the Bay!!!! It was absolutely phenomenal and we spent hours there walking around, seeing an extreme amount of plants, eating at a satay hawker center (open air food court) and then settling in for a light show. This light show was crazy beautiful. The lights were choreographed to music and made me feel bad about how crappy of a dancer I am. Allison and I both sat, jaws dropped, eyes wide, watching these crazy lights do dances and flash… it was so cool!

Realizing we were old and it was nearing 8:30, we agreed it was time to head home. We took a different way than we came, detouring only for a Gucci store, which was an experience I have never had and probably will never have again, and to get Allison’s third boba tea of the day! OH! We found gluten free cookies. I almost cried. Singapore… you know me so well! We got home about 2 hours later and cleansed our bodies of 35 pounds of sweat stuck to our clothes and melted into our hair. It was a beautiful, exciting, fun, and adventurous day :) More to come!

According to Allison today was, “Ummmm. Hmmmm. I would say we were pretty spontaneous even though we had a plan. I had lots of food personally, so many cravings. I would say it was a colorful day. I would say it was an ‘I wanna live in this city for the rest of my life kind of day’. I’m sweaty. I’m definitely looking for a hubby here… I found a few husband possibilities ;) Singapore smells good. Everything is very luxurious here *note from Shae: Allison-forced-us-to-go-into-Gucci-kind-of-day.* And yah!”
